Training With Tim

Ouch Ouch Ouch @#%&$ OUCH

My friend Bone brought up a good point:

I gave up downhill skiing because I don’t want to further injure my right knee, which gave out last time I was on a Colorado ski hill.

Then without warning I go out and subject my ornery knees to 26.2 miles of pounding on pavement.

Huh?

This is why I spent most of last night with ice packs on my knees.

I totally accept what happens as a result of not preparing for a marathon. I had the aerobic capacity to handle it, but my joints, muscles and ligaments are screaming WTF at me.

I still (mostly) don’t regret running yesterday. Now I just have to make some sacrifices, like today’s running class. Or the ability to tie shoes.

My friends who were better prepared than me are not having quite the same difficulties. Jaeson wanted to go for a bike ride today, and I told him the most physical exertion I could handle was the steam room. Doug is taking the stairs and can do lunges and squats. That makes me cringe.

Also, too: I find it kind of funny that two people I know made it the goal of their first marathon to beat Sarah Palin’s pretty impressive marathon PR of 3:59. Both did.

Not sure if anyone can beat Obama 1-on-1, though.

ohhhh, Tim. I can’t help but feel somewhat responsible for the pain you are in right now — still, ya done me proud, or to use some completely exhaustive and nauseating phrases that dominated the VP debate: dere you go again, you betcha!
