Last time I went surfing, there was snow on the ground. The waves actually felt warm compared to the freezing air temperature. Wisconsin is an interesting place to surf.

This weekend, I’m not sure if there will be any waves on Lake Michigan, but no matter what there will still be the 20th Dairyland Surf Classic in Sheboygan, Wis., aka “the Malibu of the Midwest.”

That’s me with Larry “Longboard” Williams, who may or may not be the inspiration for Chicken Joe from Sheboygan in Disney’s “Surf’s Up.”

“The stoke is a global thing,” he says in the documentary “Step Into Liquid.”

I could try to explain the spectacle that is the Dairyland Surf Classic, but I couldn’t do a better job than Larry does in the Sheboygan Press.

I figured this is also a good opportunity to get back on the bike. Like I said before, I need a destination for motivation.

So I’m biking almost exactly 50 miles to Plymouth, where I’m meeting Jess to visit with her Great-Grandmother. From there it’s just a short drive to all the festivities at North Point Beach

See you on the beach.
